Video Games

We can't leave out video games when you are talking about what is causing so much violence in our society.  The military started to use video simulations in their training years ago.  After the incorporation of this technology, the average soldier's score on targets rose tremendously which allows more hits in the field.  Today both the military and law enforcement are using simulation to increase practice in almost every area of training from driving a tank or a helicopter to new jet fighters while law enforcement departments all across America have shooting and driving simulators.

This has brought about a change in video games.  No longer is it Pong or Pac Man, we now have:

Man Hunt                    Grand Theft Auto III or IV                   Resident Evil IV

God of War                 Narc                                                      True Crime New York

Mortal Kombat           Halo                                                      Condemned

                                                                            GTA 4Halo   Mortal Kombat

   Resident Evil

Type in GTA 4 sex and see what this game is all about.  Remember our kids can do this as well.

You need to know that...

In Paducah, Kentucky, Michael Carneal, a fourteen-year-old boy who stole a gun from a neighbor's house, brought it to school and fired eight shots at a student prayer group as they were breaking up. Prior to this event, he had never shot a real gun before. Of the eight shots he fired, he had eight hits on eight different kids. Five were head shots, the other three upper torso. The result was three dead, one paralyzed for life. The FBI says that the average, experienced, qualified law enforcement officer, in the average shootout, at an average range of seven yards, hits with less than one bullet in five.

How does a child acquire such killing ability?

PLAYING VIDEO GAMES

We talk more about video games in our training.  These game have a tremendous effect on our youth, which filters over to law enforcement.  Almost every school shooting, the suspect had played some sort of video game before carrying out the act.

In Grand Theft Auto IV, you can pick up a hooker, have various forms of simulated sex, then chose how you can kill her.  It is looks almost real.

The American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry have together issued a statement that:

"The conclusion of the public health community, based on over 30 years of research, is that viewing entertainment violence can lead to increases in aggressive attitudes, values and behaviors, particularly in children."
