Violent media, including Hip Hop and Rap Music and associated videos, as well as video games are producing a culture of violent criminals which is causing more violence towards law enforcement. The “Get Rich Trying” attitude started by rapper 50 cent is partly to blame for this.

Almost everyday newspapers across the United States are telling us about another police officer being assaulted, shot and even killed. During a span in August 2007, several police officers in Jacksonville and Miami were shot in the face. Lyrics about running from the police and shooting cops in the face are becoming prominent in this industry. In fact, in some circles it’s a badge of honor to be shot, shoot a police officer, or go to jail.  In 2007, 69 police officers were killed by gunfire. This was the highest rate in 30 years. What is causing this sudden increase in violence? Our  workshops are geared towards introducing law enforcement officers to the dangers and influence this music has on our society. The messages in their music and videos glorify killing, rape, guns, drug use and hatred. The clothing they wear to the jewelry worn are all examples of a culture that has become a big problem for law enforcement and one we need to be prepared to handle because it is here to stay for a while.

We offer training on this culture to law enforcement agencies, community groups and churches.
